Nonprofit organizations are many and diverse in Australia, but together they form a distinct and separate class of organizations. To start with, the non-profit organizations are in themselves an organization. This means that all of them have regulations and guiding principles that govern their day to day activities. While majority of non-profit organization are not incorporated as they majorly rely on volunteering labour. Some of the non-profit organizations are integrated, meaning the cooperation is autonomous to its associate members (Jackson, Donovan, 1999). The large non-profit organization offering employment are a good exam ple of the integrated organizations. The non-profit organizations are categorized as private. This means that the non-profit are not directly controlled by the government. The government is only involved when such organization rely on the government to finance large part of the organizational operational revenue (Edwards, Yankey, 2006). The most important indication that shows that non-profit organization are not part of the government is that their action are not subject to the parliamentary scrutiny and are not subject to ministerial directions. Thirdly the non-profit organizations as the name suggests are non-profit making organizations. This should not be misunderstood with entirely not making any profit as it makes some surplus at the end of the financial year. If this were the case like any other private organization, the non-profit organization would cease to exist. The difference between the non-profit and the private organization is that, the non-profit organizations do not distribute the profit the company ac quires to its members at the end of financial year like the private organizations. Nonetheless, the main target of the organization is not to make an enormous returns (Hudson, 2009). The non-profit organization can be distinguished from the government and the private sectors as they involve some voluntary commitment of time by members of the non-profit organization. Some non-profit may employ people to provide labour, services and management but to some extent they still rely on voluntary labour (Craig, Mayo, 1995). Majority of non-profit organizations depend and rely entirely on the volunteering services to obtain labour for the organization. Another distinction of nonprofit organization from the private and government organization is that the non-profit are member owned organization. Schools and hospitals owned by religious groups like Catholic Church provides a good example of the exemptions whereby a non-profit is owned by a fellow non-profit organization. In this case the stakeholders to a school includes, the religious group which is Catholic Church, the pupils or students, the parents, the teachers and the non-teaching staff. Here the members expectation differs largely from the shareholders of the organization to an individual owner who expect to financially benefit from ownership of the school institution (Edwards, Yankey, 2006). Lastly the mechanism of financing a non-profit organization tend to bear some forms of complications as compared to a same size government or private organization. The funds running the organization are sourced from various sources including unrelated business ventures, donations from individuals and companies, returns on investments, government funding, and revenue from various fundraising events, and sponsorship (Lyons, 2001). As indicated above the non-profit organization differ from the private for profit in terms of obtaining their operational finances from a wider variety of sources while for profit obtain their day to day revenue from sale of goods and services. A group of non-profit still rely on third parties even though they provide services to the public. A few number of non-profits entirely depend on the government to provide them with fund to carry out their daily activities. Thus the difference is manifested in the source of income and the form in which this income is r eceived (Iriye, 2002). As highlighted above many non-profit organization globally lack of legal mandate which forms part of the challenges experienced by the nonprofit organizations. Despite the fact that lack of legal mandate may not be problematic for the small non-profit community organizations, this brings about a lot of challenges to the larger organizations that are involved in contracts, employ people as well as those that own property. Time And Guilt Time and Guilt In Tillie Olsen's narrative I Stand Here Ironing, I interpreted that there was a reflection of the loss of time and the sense of guilt between a mother and daughter. This is displayed in the authors word choice, point of view, imagery and tone. Olsen begins her narrative while ironing and talking on the phone. Her daughter needs help, she is told. So she begins to ask herself a million questions. She wonders why her daughter needs help, how she can help her, and what she could have done to prevent her from straying so far in the first place. As these questions run through her mind the iron in her hand moves swiftly back and forth in rhythm, throughout the entire narrative. Ironing being an act of boredom. With each movement she has a new thought regarding her daughter; she questions how she could have raised her to be a better person. In this essay one senses Emily's resentment toward her mother. This is because of the way in which she had been treated, for it is clearly obvious that Emily was unknowingly denied the love and attention a normal child would receive. What is odd though is that throughout the narrative one can feel the love Olsen has for her daughter. Nevertheless, this love that Olsen claims to have for her daughter, is not expressed enough to Emily, which, therefore, leads Emily to acquire many feelings of resentment, neglect and perhaps even betrayal toward her mother. A good example occurs when Olsen is confronted about her love for her daughter, and she says, What was in my face when I looked at her? This clearly shows how unaware she is of her daughter's feelings. This is suggested continuously throughout the story when Olsen recounts how she had to send her daughter away while she worked. Although, the act was unintentional, too much time away from one's loved one, for too long can have a drastic effect on a person; most especially a child. That is why Emily seems so bitter; She was a child seldom smiled at, (6). Who could blame her for not smiling? She had been sent away from her family during so many key points in her life. First, she had been sent way when she was a baby in order for her mom to get back on her feet. Next, she was sent away to a convalescent hospital where she was again separated from her family. How was she supposed to live a normal life when all that she loved and depended on kept leaving her life? Emily was constantly denied stability, and that is a major factor in allowing her to lead a normal life. Olsen says her husband could no longer endure sharing want with them (2). When broken down, want suggests that he did not care to share a life of poverty with them. Could this be true also for Olsen toward Emily, but in a different text? To Olsen, what if it means that she can no longer continue to hold expectations for her daughter? Does that not constitute for want also? Maybe that is what the whole story is about. On the outside it looks like a story about a conflict between mother and daughter, but there are many interpretations to be pondered. What if the story is really about a mother that drops all expectations for her daughter in order for her to lead a normal life before it is too late? Or, better yet, maybe it is Emily that can no longer endure want? Whatever the case is, one thing is for sure and that is that Emily has been denied something that could have made her whole. Olsen uses such verbs as remember, sift, weigh, estimate, total, all of which mean that she must consider carefully. In the beginning these words are used to show how Olsen begins to examine her daughter's life. In the conclusion, she employs the words dredging; which means to dig up or search, compounds; which means to combine or add, and total again, which in this case means to sum up. This suggests that in the end she has concluded her observation of her daughter, and that is that she will never come to a conclusion of her daughter. She will never total it all. Tillie Olsen writes a great story about raising her daughter, Emily. She makes good use of word choice in describing their life story, informing us of how being a single parent was hard, and that the war did not contribute any good either to raising her daughter. It has come to my attention that your company, MGM International Resorts, is facing some major issues as the gaming and hospitality industry struggles to recover. In this letter I plan to address the industries problems, and the specific issues that your company is facing. One of the major issues facing MGM International Resorts is that it is that the industry has a lot of overcapacity as demand has dropped from pre-recessionary evels when many big projects have been planned. This is evidenced by your companys ambitious pre-recession project CityCenter, the largest private development project in United States history. CityCenter ended up opening to little fanfare. The biggest sources of revenue in the industry were conventions. Due to the economic downturn in 2008, revenues from Conventions have decreased dramatically and have not fully recovered. Your company also aces strong competition from competitors such as Wynn Resorts and Las Vegas Sands who have managed to fare in the recession substantially better. MGM Resorts Internationals financial statements are not very good relative to your competitors. The industrys suppliers of hospitality related supplies, such as food bed sheet and soap, and casino/gaming specific supplies, such as slot machines and thousands of decks of cards, have very weak bargaining power. The ew large companies within the gaming and hospitality industry have the bargaining power with when it comes to its two supplier lines as there are many of these suppliers to buy from while only a few large companies that are willing to buy. The ability to use a companys size to negotiate price and length of contracts for expensive high luxury furnishings and exclusive rights to a show or celebrity chef also gives the gaming and hospitality industry strength. While bargaining power of the suppliers is weak, the bargaining power of buyers is very strong. Customers have ery low switching costs and again the large excess in capacity in the industry means that you and all your competitors are cutting prices on rooms and services in order to attract business. Conventions, which are a large part of revenue have been on the downturn compared to capacity, again forcing prices downward. Buyers in the industry are also very price sensitive with many opting to take staycations where vacationers enjoy their time off closer to home. All of these forces add up to an industry that is relatively weak and recovering very slowly. Using the growth-share nalysis, your company is positioned as a cash cow which is very good. Your company has high market share in a slow growing industry. The company should worry though as it is close to being a dog of the industry as it has a lot of debt from ill-timed large projects such as CityCenter and must worry about other companies stealing market share as they are recovering faster. As of January 1, 2010, 3,261 people live on death row (â€Å"Death†). Fewer than 3,261 people live in my small town of Belle Plaine, so to me this number is outrageous. Inmates that wait on the death penalty jail create a problem for everyone in the country. If we would put these inmates through the death penalty quickly, we could take the problem away from the country. Why do we keep murderers and criminals on death row around? People argue the controversial topic of the death penalty very thoroughly, and address all sides. On one side people argue that we would save money and the death penalty sets an example for other criminals, while on the opposition people argue that life without parole is cheaper, capital punishment is morally wrong, and innocent people mistakenly are killed. The United States abolished the death penalty, also called capital punishment, in 1963. Throughout the 1960s, the Supreme Court battled many cases involving whether the death penalty should be allowed. The Supreme Court finally ruled in 1976 that the death penalty be enforced by the states that wanted it and not enforced by those who do not want it. Currently in the United States, thirty-five states have the death penalty, while fifteen do not. Even though some states have the death penalty, seven states have not performed any executions. Seventy percent of the public approves of the death penalty to be enforced throughout the states (Robinson). I also support the death penalty, and I think the death penalty should be enforced for many cases. Capital punishment would save money throughout the nation. Behaviour policy is a guideline to all staff on how pupil behaviour should be managed it is important that this policy is constantly being applied to ensure full safety of the pupils; this is why all staff must be familiar with this policy. The policy outlines the schools aims of how to create a positive community atmosphere in which children can learn effectively by showing good standards of behaviour. The school aims to identify and respond to good behaviour in children, promoting a positive classroom environment where children with good behaviour and work are recognised. It outlines rewards & sanctuary’s and sets put a code of conduct that all children staff, parents and governors should be aware of. People communicating there to each other were difficult for him to understand them because they used to communicate in their own language which she was not familiar with. He found it was offensive since he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know what actually they were talking about, was it about her or someone else or work. 3.3 Strategies to overcome challenge: Interact more with people who are from different cultures , he tried to ask his workmates if he can hangout around with them and to be friends with them so that she can understand them better and at the same time learn little bit about their language, culture and values. Her general responsibilities are to order new stocks, stock rotation, make displays, stock refilling and order credit notes. The main challenging issue with her when he started were; 4.1 Communication challenge and effect: Physical barrier due to area spaces (isolation) which could prove difficult for employeeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s to have effective communication since he was a merchandiser it was hard for her to communicate with other workmates because all of them were allocated to different so they hardly meet or see each other and psychological barrier due to workload distribution, its caused communication melt down with other employees. 4.2 Strategies to overcome challenges: Management should encourage socializing by hosting monthly lunch. Provide English class to employees, proper planning of roster to disturb workload equally. Her everyday duties were customer service and database collection that is entering of items in system, balancing and ordering. Over the months she has been faced with extensive communication challenges including; 5.2 Communication challenges and effects: Language barrier- Participant was facing difficulties to understand workmate because the colleague was speaking very fast and she had problem in understanding their language, she was not that fluent with local language. People at work place had thick accented that made it difficulty in understanding them: for example the workmate was not communicating face to face and there was no eye content which became a barrier. Tasks were incorrectly performed: the participant did not understand what the colleague was saying, and she couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t figure out wh at work was to be done. She performed all work incorrectly. 5.3 Strategies to overcome challenges: Interacting more with people of different cultures à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å"participant should interact more with other people for example after work, going out at and socialise with individuals. Asking for feedback- if she is not sure of anything that how and when it is to be done, she should always ask the superiors. Active listening- she should be listening carefully so that she can understand.
